🌟 Staff Stories: Why Makenzie Chose Creating Brighter Futures
Makenzie is a Behavior Technician at Creating Brighter Futures. She came into the role through her social work studies and personal experiences — including a challenging past and encouragement from a coworker who loved the job. At first, she wasn’t sure if she had the right personality or experience for ABA therapy. But after her first week, she knew she was exactly where she was meant to be.
Each day, Makenzie works one-on-one with children using play-based ABA strategies to build skills, reduce frustration, and help them grow emotionally and socially. She helps kids learn how to communicate their needs, follow routines, and navigate big feelings — all in a way that feels fun, safe, and individualized. A big part of her role is “pairing,” or building strong connections through shared play and trust, which lays the foundation for all the progress to come.
Makenzie is proud of how much growth she’s witnessed — in the children she supports, and in herself. She finds deep joy in watching kids overcome challenges and master new skills, even if those steps seem small at first. And she credits Creating Brighter Futures with giving her the tools, support, and encouragement to thrive in a role she never imagined herself in.
She also feels supported by her team — from clinical supervisors to fellow techs — and values the kindness, collaboration, and open communication that make the environment feel like family.
“I came in just hoping to try something new. Now, I wake up excited to go to work.”
Today, Makenzie is planning to pursue trauma therapy for children — a dream that began here. Her story shows how Creating Brighter Futures doesn’t just help kids grow… it helps passionate people discover their purpose.
